The biggest drawback to the books is the over the top use of Noir cliches and characters. And the plot was so convoluted and the characters flew in and out I had to ask I didn’t finish this book and I hate not finishing books.

Life is short and the books are many so I did not finish this grim pessimistic novel. The two first books are set during the nazi period. Of the three books in this collection, I liked the third one the best.
The mystery is interesting and the violence and sex are well written. I’m in the minority here. Another minor irritant is that Kerr uses a lot of Britishisms put in the mouths of Americans, Russians, and Germans alike.
It is a gripping and intriguing collection of stories though – a literary blockbuster that gets your imagination flaring but fails to step up from good to great. This is the first book to read in Kerr’s Berlin Noir series. There is more than one author in the Goodreads database with this name. I do believe the next will be better and I would recommend this to detective fiction fans.
