This was a very interesting book that was filled with a lot of good information. Most days they would bring back the majority of what they brought to the Nomad market, but it they continued to go because it allowed them to have their own place in the cash economy.
Three Decades of Cultural Change I highly recommend The Gebusi for anyone studying anthropology, or anyone who loves reading about other culture’s changes over time. Sixteen years later, he found them participating in market activity, schooling, government programs, and sports; performing their own popular music; and practicing Christianity.

Knauft is an anthropologist who initially lived with the Gebusi for two years, from toaccompanied by his wife Eileen whether she is also an anthropologist is unclear; though he discusses his feelings about developments among the Gebusi and relationships with individuals among them, this is definitely not a memoir. This book is very well written and while short in length this book is long on interesting Anthropological content.
The ending is very touching.
This makes his work accessible to students in introductory anthropology classes. I like the coverage of multiple time periods, and the availability of so much gebksi material. Sexuality was more fluid with the men — older men had relations with the younger men which was accepted by the wives as long as they did not have affairs with other women.
But it read too much like a textbook yes, i know it is a textbook for it to be very enjoyable for pleasure reading.
