Database System Concepts
At the end of the book there are several chapters on popular commercial databases. It really starts from zero foreknowledge and builds it up quickly to where you’re able to design a database, write queries both SQL as well as relational algebra and check for redundancy. In the real world you have as much chance to work with a commercial database as with an open source one.
New developments, for instance NoSQL databases, are not mentioned. Undoubtedly, this is the best book on Database concepts. Intended for a first course in databases at the junior or senior undergraduate, or first-year graduate, kirth, this book covers concepts and algorithms based on those used in commercial or experimental database systems.
