Obviously, his happiness and stability was removed by the fact that his family was destroyed. And Uncle Mumpreh disappears. He’s really the only character who appears in the majority of the book, although the supporting cast is what enables him to make the journey in the first place. How forgorten you feel, think, act, hate, and hope all at once when you are almost certain that your entire family has been killed.
It was really sad and dark how in the course of years he lost his entire family from the war and all bagdasaian family’s wealth. Somehow Vahan’s incredible strength and spirit help him endure, even knowing that each day could be his last.
Its’ a fast read, not because its simple, but because you don’t wanna put it down.

The protagonist stops in various locations, and by luck or by clever choice, he survives. There is violence and mention of rape in this book. And a man of great warmth and humor, which is extraordinary, considering all he saw and suffered. I’m glad he at least made it out of the war but I feel bad because he lost everything he had. What other ethnic wars have occurred since World War II? He wasn’t very likable. What is the meaning of the title Forgotten Fire? Here the genocide is house to house, almost casual in its cruelty.
