Including the solo guitar, the concerto is scored for an orchestra consisting of a piccoloa flutean oboea bassoona trumpet in C, and strings. Yepez imbues gentle humour, grace and skilfull asides with the orchestra, which returns in kind. The second part of the first movement, called Ricercare, is a short piece contrasting with Villano and entirely based on a two-bar phrase, repeated in the form of a complex fugue or ricercare.
Most of the movements retain the names that Sanz originally gave pxra. A lyrical movement is framed by two fast movements – in the first two the musical material is fully developed, whereas the structure of the Rondo finale is more static.
