Una rated it did not like it Apr 26, Se pasaban un poco. I find this book contemptuous and wish I had not attempted to read it. This book’s only virtue was that it was light – I needed a light book for a backpacking trip. It offers little insight into the genres it is aligned with: Didn’t really get it. Not that I’m one to disengage in a good pulpy novel, but the meaty topics like racial injustice and sexual liberation were played out in a way so misogynistic I hardly could make it through.
I feel empty which has seldom happened to me while reading. Do I absolutely have to be disgusted and want to throw up due to the oppressive misogyny and violence of the story to call it art? I was not put off by the bizarre scenes in Roth or Pynchon or even Sade. Ceux qui connaissent me comprendront.
It is meant to be read ironically at some level at least, it is widely claimed that that’s the correct interpretationbut to me it came across more as sadistic pornography. What’s within is kinda fucking insane.

The book was a bestseller, but destroyed poor Vian. Of course, the French version is the original and it is only figuratively a translation, quite a poor one at that, of Black Am Boris Vian’s I Spit on Your Graves is a text I can confidently say no one will enjoy reading. I wish I wasn’t that disappointed, but this book left me nothing to think about, to praise or to do. United States of America.
