Grisham, who is no Paul Theroux, daringly forays into travel writing with his tedious descriptions of Bologna, Italy, and increases the word count by tediously writing delightful, rambling, mundane phrases, first in Italian, followed by the translation in English. As i start to read it, it felt like i was the main protagonist and i was commiserated with him. This book started of slow but picked up half way through. Top Reviews Most recent Top Reviews. At first Backman was locked into a power struggle with his ‘minders’ but then a fair chunk of the novel was really just about him learning all about Italy which I couldn’t help but wonder if Grisham himself was showing off his knowledge. I intermedip hate it, nor did I love it or even really like it. The pace does pick up jphn the time actually comes for Backman to run, but even that doesn’t make up for the rest of the book. I can read the newspapers these days grishqm get more action and espionage and dirty politics. Upon the dissolution of his sentence, the political wheels in Washington have turned and numerous powerful people want him dead.
Wouldn’t a cutting edge piece of defense software be obsolete after six years?
