Because Bitterblue goes where Fire has already gone before, and not only does this book not learn from Fire ‘s few flaws, it repeats them and makes more than a few more along the way too. As a mystery, Bitterblue did not work for me at all.
So I understand how awesome it is now, because I see some people mentioned in one book and wish the author does a book from their perspective. New York City, Boston, Cambridge, Austin, Pennsylvania, Italy, and even a short stint in London, where my showerhead hung from the cutest little stand that was exactly like the cradle of an old-fashioned telephone. Now Bitterblue is the queen of Monsea, and her land is at peace. It started out really good, but half-way through I was ready for this book to start rapping up.
At Po’s castle, Bitterblue and Katsa are horrified to find that Leck has taken over the minds of Po’s workers and his castle.
This is definitely not the case with any of Cashore’s novels. I don’t want to be let down after all the buildup.

They hold a key to the truth of Leck’s reign. There’s backlash for this? Graceling fans, prepare to be conflicted. I am all about editing in stories, and for the first half of this book, the redundancies seemed unnecessary and boring. Love Story I enjoyed the little romance between Saf and Bitterblue. The two determine that Katsa’s Grace isn’t killing, but survival. Which I thought was fantastic. King Leck used his grace to take over the realm. At points it was emotionally draining.
But, when you see them mentioned from another gracling POV, you see a sweet couple and it really does them justice. Also, the unsolved mysteries kept growing to a point where it because ridiculous and when the truth came out, it was anti-climatic. I do think, though, that a little more romance would have been nice.
It got me writing. Often in this book, and especially in the beginning, I felt that things were progressing very slowly. She doesn’t suddenly become If Graceling was great, Bitterblue is near perfect.
I btterblue sometimes a hermit, but never for very long. It’s been 4 years since Bitterblue already! As the two worlds of Graceling and Fire were interwoven it made for a really confusing book. It made for hard reading much of the time knowing their have already faced so much. This soon changed, however, when I realised the discontent now plaguing the once-happy characters. The idea of empowerment or disempowerment just sounds to me like somehow you can subscribe to something outside of yourself that will magically take away your problems.
Trivia About Bitterblue Grace Katsa and Po renew their relationship, and Katsa takes on a mission to teach the girls and women of the seven kingdoms to defend themselves. With Leck dead, his stories are exposed as lies and Katsa and Bitterblue return to Monsea with Bitterblue as queen.
This book is so, so deeply important to me, in so many ways. It’s not confusing, just to someone like me trying to write a review!
