I wasn’t a fan of the initiative system in Mythic The players are bringing that to the table, not the game. They aren’t that obnoxious and they fit the genre the game is for perfectly. You do have to be very careful with scale though, one point of something means a lot in BoL as your numbers are smaller to play with and there are less dials to fidget with.
I wouldn’t use the word “bloat” to refer to the HP situation. I’ve read a couple of reviews on rpg. The book is pages long. World guide, map, and barbarinas. No problem, you don’t have to be a “railroady jerk” to run this game! I felt they were unnecessary. So basic DC of 9, with off and penalties more common sounds about right to me. I’ve played many an equally simple game engine. I suppose, for the casual observer, RPGs are about pretending to be someone else who is living in a fantasy setting, and throwing dice to see if their actions succeed or fail. Maybe there actually was a loose stone but why check when I can spend a point and make it so?

Advancement Points the only way to mechanically progress your character are only handed out after you describe how you squander away all of the loot you just worked so hard to get.
The GM liked that we were kept in the status-quo by being barbraians encouraged to spent treasure in weird things, and while it did help to create new adventure seeds at first, it wasn’t particularly interesting for long play as we felt we were not accomplishing much.
Base DC of 9?

Your criticism of the storygamyness of the system assumes a weak GM who will say “yes” to every player petition made via the system and that the rules are absolute and context-independent.
RPGPundit 9 March at This particular hack aims to make BoL a bit more like a d20 game. The way I went about this is I first bought a digital copy of the Legendary edition for 5 dollars, liked it a lot BoL is my favorite systemthen got a digital copy of the Mythic edition when it was on sale 7 dollars, down from the usual Jorge Jaramillo Villarruel 27 February at Well, that’s the thing, they are different and Burning Wheel is indeed a Swiss watch but they both still tell time.
