Be the first to ask jxje question about Baba Jaga je snijela jaje. A little too self aware for my taste. Pupa is ready to die, and accomplishes that, but I didn’t get that the other jaue were a buxom blonde and a serial widow as described in the jacket notes. I’ve read this book in German – that’s important, because I have the feeling that a lot of trouble I have with it comes from the translation.
This is perhaps due to my age, the translation or cultural barriers.

Not an easy read. I enjoyed the first two pieces of this and then felt very bogged down in the third. Her novel Forsiranje romana reke was given the coveted NIN-award for the best novel of the year: At first it seemed like it was a Pale Fire-esque textual criticism within criticism but that it did not succeed as well as Pale Fire because the critic seemed more like the author than an separate entity.
But the third ‘explanation’ section was far too long, and I felt it spoiled what had gone before. So far, this has been my favorite selection. Croatian View all editions and formats. I gave a little cheer when I found this at the library; I had almost put it out of my mind entirely.
I am sure this was hard to translate, jw with all the rhyming verse, but I have to say I was constantly reminded that it was indeed a translation, by the kind of choppy sentences and paragraph structure, which I found very distracting.
