Sgereti tone reminded me of Istanbul by Orhan Pamuk. Also, a detailed account of the events surrounding the Fosse Ardeatine and Jewish deportation and Nazi occupation in general, not to mention the Allied liberation. Roma e i suoi lati sconosciuti o meno noti. But there is too much to Rome’s nearly year history for a whirlwind tour of a single book.

Thursday, June 07, Augias si interessa di numerosissimi argomenti, e ce li racconta con una scrittura limpida e coinvolgente, a tratti atmosferica.
Maybe that’s because these overlap with Augias’ own lifetime and are therefore described more vividly, maybe because I didn’t have as much prior knowledge about Italy under fascism or during and after WWII. Londra non accende proprio.

I guess like the city, it lives on, but it felt like we were going to get some sort of romq closing augiws to pull stories together to coalesce the history that ranged over 2, years. You can tell he loves Rome, but he always had to get back to a story that he was telling, and it interrupted the narrative arc by jumping back and forth within stories. The stories in this book span the entire history of Rome: Adored by critics and readers alike, “I segreti di Roma” has at last been translated into English and has come out in the Auggias in April with Rizzoli.
Rather, it’s like sitting down with a Roman friend over coffee or an Aperitivo, listening to him tell interesting anecdotes about his city.
