Coreans Protest FTA and US Beef Industry
May 29, 2008
Image above: South Coreans protesting this week against the removal of a ban on US beef exports. CNN says before the ban, Corea was the third largest market that brought in US beef. It’s annoying how media is making this just about the fact that they don’t want mad cow disease (the quote they used was the crowd chanting “we don’t want crazy cows”) and not the uproar over US-SK Free Trade agreements. Thousands are protesting and holding vigils.

It’s so much easier for our media to say “look at those paranoid Coreans who don’t trust us” than to say “look at these Coreans who are getting shafted by our policies that make us a very pretty penny”…

Just curious, why do you spell it Corea and not Korea?

i spell it Corea as a political statement, even though my fingers want to correct it every time since i grew up spelling it w/ a K. Corea with a C is how it was spelled before 1900s century, when it was unified and before it was colonized by the Japanese empire. Most languages around the world still spell it w/ a C (spanish, french, etc).
i just googled this website, it seems like it gives more info:
